About the Role

Somaticore is building a secure, research-backed cognitive health platform. We’re looking for a part-time Full-Stack Developer based in Toronto to help architect and maintain the systems that power our app — with a particular focus on backend security, data integrity, and user privacy.

You’ll work closely with a small team across product and design, owning backend infrastructure decisions and helping us build something that people can genuinely trust with their health data. This is a hybrid role with flexible hours.

This position is open until filled. We review applications on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain secure backend APIs and services.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, and data protection best practices.
  • Conduct security reviews and address vulnerabilities proactively.
  • Collaborate with the frontend on API design and integration.
  • Set up and maintain infrastructure including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and logging.
  • Ensure the platform meets relevant data privacy standards (PIPEDA).

Requirements

  • Solid backend development experience (Node.js, Python, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of web security fundamentals (OWASP, auth patterns, encryption).
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Comfort working across the full stack when needed.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly in a small team.
  • Based in Toronto with availability for occasional in-person collaboration.
  • A background or genuine interest in psychology, cognitive science, or neuroscience is an asset.

Nice to Have

  • Experience handling health data or other sensitive user data.
  • Familiarity with PIPEDA or HIPAA compliance requirements.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
